The NCP12400 is a new fixed-frequency current-mode controller with dynamic self-power capability. This feature activates the internal start-up current source to power the controller during start-up, transients, latch-up, standby, etc., greatly simplifying the design of auxiliary power supplies and VCC capacitors. The device contains a special high voltage detector that detects the application of unplugging from the AC line and triggers the X2 discharge current. This high voltage structure also enables undervoltage detection. It features timer-based fault detection to ensure overload detection and adjustable compensation to help maintain maximum power regardless of input voltage. Due to frequency foldback, the controller has excellent energy efficiency at light load conditions while achieving very low standby power consumption. Internal frequency jittering, slope compensation, and a multifunction latch input make this controller an excellent candidate for rugged power supply designs. A dedicated shutdown mode achieves extremely low no-load input power consumption by putting the entire device to "sleep", thereby minimizing power consumption in the control circuitry. Additionally, the NCP12400 features a quiet skip mode that locks the skip frequency below the audible range. This feature achieves reduced noise caused by switching pulses in skip mode.

The TL494 PWM controller combines on one chip all functions required for a pulse width modulation (PWM) control circuit. This device is primarily used for power control and provides the flexibility to tailor the power control circuit for a specific application. The TL494 PWM controller contains two error amplifiers, an on-chip adjustable oscillator, a dead-time control (DTC) comparator, a pulse-steering control flip-flop, a 5-V, ​​5% precision voltage regulator, and multiple output control circuit. The common-mode voltage range of the error amplifier is -0.3 V to VCC -2 V. The dead-time controlled comparator has a fixed offset value, providing approximately 5% dead-time. The on-chip oscillator can be bypassed by terminating RT for the reference output and providing a sawtooth input to CT, which can also drive common circuits in a synchronous multirail supply. Uncommitted output transistors provide common emitter or emitter-follower output functionality. This PWM controller provides push-pull or single-ended output operation, selectable through the output control function. The architecture of this device prohibits the possibility of either output being pulsed twice during a push-pull operation. The TL494C PWM controller can operate from 0C to 70C. The TL494I can operate from -40C to 85C. The TL494B operates from -40C to 125C. The NCV494B operates from -40C to 125C and is qualified for automotive applications.
