The NCP1256 includes everything needed to build a cost-effective switch-mode power supply of a few watts to tens of watts. Housed in a tiny TSOP-6 package, the part has a supply range up to 30 V, has a dithered 65 kHz or 100 kHz switching circuit, and operates under peak current mode control. When the power on the auxiliary side starts to decrease, the controller automatically folds back its switching frequency to a minimum of 26 kHz. As the power drops further, the part enters a skip cycle while limiting the peak current. The NCP1256 comes with several protection features such as timer-based short-circuit protection, lossless OPP, and an easily adjustable brown-out (BO) pin. Two inputs are provided to latch off the part in a feasible way, for example using OVP and OTP events. There are several options for selecting latched or automatic recovery.
