The MCH12140 or K12140 is a Phase Frequency Detector for Phase Locked Loop applications that require minimum phase and frequency difference when locking. When used with a high-performance VCO such as the MC100EL1648, a high-bandwidth PLL can be achieved. The device is functionally compatible with the MC12040 Phase-Frequency Detector, but the maximum frequency is extended to 800 MHz. When the frequency and/or phase of the reference (R) and VCO (V) inputs are different, the differential UP (U) and DOWN (D) outputs provide pulse streams that, if subtracted and integrated, provide the control VCO the error voltage. See AND8040 for more information. The device is packaged in a small surface-mount 8-lead SOIC package. The device is available in two versions, providing I/O compatibility to two existing ECL standards. The MCH12140 is compatible with MECL 10H logic levels, while the MCK12140 is compatible with 100K ECL logic levels. This device can also be used in +5.0 V systems. See AND8020 for termination information.
